Analysis of Battery Safety Design for a Lithium Battery-Powered Ferry

The safety design of the power source of lithium battery-powered ships is significantly different from that of conventional powered ships according to the characteristics of lithium batteries. In order to ensure the safe usage of the lithium battery, a lithium battery-powered inland river ferry is examined to study the current safety design measures of the lithium battery(including the requirements for single battery, battery cells and battery management system), the ship battery compartment layout, the ventilation schemes and the design of the fire-fighting system. The fixed HFC-227C fire extinguishing system is calculated and checked according to the requirements of relevant codes. The safety requirements of current rules for the lithium battery power have been met through a series of safety designs. Finally, the limitation of the design scheme and the disadvantage of using fire extinguishing media are pointed out.

Model Selection and Calculation Verification of LNG Double Wall Piping Ventilation Fan

As an alternative marine clean energy, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) has become more and more popular. However, the particularity of gas fuel brings great safety risk. Therefore, specific safety measures need to be considered in the design of the LNG carrier in order to ensure the safety of the entire gas system. A well-designed ventilation system should be required to ensure the ship safety in case of the accidental gas leakage. An integral LNG double wall piping ventilation system has been established and completely calculated from the ventilation resistance, the ventilation volume and the model selection of the ventilation fan. The corresponding ventilation fan parameters are also selected referring to the calculation results. It can provide reference for the model selection of the relative dual-fuel double wall piping ventilation fan.
