Accidents such as mechanical collision damage and environmental pollution may occur during the lifting operation of chemical tote tanks on the deep water floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO). According to the Oil Company’s General Specifications, the quantitative risk analyses of the chemical tote tank dropping onto the top deck of the topside module and the deck of the main laydown area are carried out, and the occurrence probability and impact energy of typical impact events are calculated. The impact of the chemical tote tank dropping onto the deck structure is simulated by using the LS-DYNA 3D software according to DNV Classification Society rules. The plastic strain damage of the deck structure and the impact depth of chemical tote tank are also analyzed to determine the local strengthening design scheme of the deck structure, ensuring the safety of the important equipment under the deck.
