The Assault Craft Unit 4 (ACU-4) and Assault Craft Unit 5 (ACU-5) base facilities of the American Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) are introduced, as well as the Yokose base of the west pacific ALPHA, and the characteristics of each base has been analyzed. LCAC can berth intensively due to its good maneuverability at low speed as it is equipped with bow thrusters. The LCAC need to be lifted frequently for checking and repairing since the bottom and skirt side fingers of the LCAC are easy to be damaged. Rubber-tired cranes are therefore fixed at the LCAC bases to lift the LCAC onto the high buttress for checking and accessing to the garage for indoor maintenance. The possible shortcomings of the current LCAC bases and thus the corresponding solutions are also discussed. The procedure of the LCAC lifting and transfer and the factors to be considered in the design of the rubber-tired cranes are preliminarily analyzed.
